Our Travel Style - Lodging

One of the many important details Kim & I have perfected after many trips to Africa is our choice of lodging. We have tried a variety of styles and our favorite is luxury under canvas. We choose our camps carefully. We want a good location so the game drive actually often begins before we leave camp. We want comfortable rooms preferably with some privacy and a view with regular beds, hot/cold water & flush toilets as part of our room. A quality camp with an excellent food preparation staff is at the top of our checklist. Generally, the meals are served buffet style with lots of variety so everyone can easily find things they enjoy. The staff is well trained in proper food preparation. If you have special dietary requirements, we let them know ahead of time so they are properly prepared as everything has to be brought in great distances to some of our more remote camps. The African soups are incredible. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and delicious. I can’t think of anyone who has ever traveled with us that had a hard time finding foods they liked to eat. Presentation is often mind flowingly beautiful. Especially in the “bush or tent camps” where you really don’t expect it. Bush breakfasts are a special delight. When doing all day game drives, we pack a box lunch before we head out. You are unlikely to drop any weight when you are on safari.
